Images shown of our group rehearsing for the music video few hours before filming:

Ignatius and Arjun practicing dance moves:

During our Project, we arranged some free days and periods for us to practice our moves, camera techniques and practicing editing through this time to get the best result of our project. Each day we were free, we would take advantage of the space and location given to us, like the drama studio and hall. We used these locations several times in order to get our routine perfect we needed to practice and the examples in the images show this, and eventually take us to another level in our project.

What we have learnt from the research of the textual analysis:

The main thing our group has learnt from the Textual analysis is how other music videos get the audience to watch there videos. We learnt that in order to attract a certain group of people, we need our music video to have constructive story line flow or a certain singer/rapper representing something. In our case, we had 3 rappers, and each of them has something to represent, i.e. Arjun represented his religion, Sohil represented his wealth, and Ignatius represented his talent. So it is key on what you are trying to achieve in your music video as it will determine whether people would watch or buy your songs. We also learned to make the music video different to others, as many look identical to one another, which makes it boring to watch and listen to. We also used our 3 rappers to develop their own lyrics to the look at me now beat, as this is also unique and different to existing videos. We also learnt how structure, manage audio and visualize effects on parts of the music video which look suitable to edit. So we didn't want to go over the top and add millions of visual effects, as we learnt to keep a balance by looking at existing music videos and comparing ours to others.

Letter of Consent:

It was quite hard to get permission to use the Look At Me Now instrumental in our video due to the way that the only way we would be able to get hold of Chris Brown himself was through Twitter. It took quite long to actually get a reply from Chris Brown due to he must be very busy, being known worldwide and being on of the most famous R & B singers. We managed to connect with Chris Brown over twitter to ask whether is was cool to use his tune in our music video. He was alright with it due to he let alot more people also remix to it.

Now we have got Adnan to tweet Chris Brown to confirm if we can use his song on our music video. The screen shot below shows the message tweeted by Adnan to Chris Brown, although a response is pending:

Changes:

During our Project, we did come across some changes with our music video. We changed some of the video clips along with a minor audio change. At first we filmed Sohil's scenes in 2 locations, which wasn't enough as we figured out the length of Sohil's rap is long and we needed variety in it. With Arjuns and Ignatius's filmed, we wanted to make each rapper equal, as it would make the music video look odd and unfair. Sohil filmed his park in the graffiti park and the tunnel. He also filmed it with a girl next to him, which also did not go well, so we decided to remove any girls in Sohil's rap and keep them in Arjun's and Ignatius's scene. This was because Sohil represents Money, Car's, wealth etc and the original scenario with the girls did't look right. So we've now changed his part, now it is updated looking much better and blending in with the whole video. We also changed some minor audio sounds, by increasing the bass of the song (long at me know by Chris Brown instrumental) and adding a few sound effects like, breaking glass, racing car effect and voice overs.
Changes shown below on colour correction:
Normal Colour Correction above

1st Colour Correction Choice in Green shown above

Changes to our colour correction below:

Without Colour Correction

Colour Corrected in purple

Finally we came up with a decision with the colour corrections, as shown below, this was our final choice between how we wanted the resolution to stand out:

A slightly light tinted purple, with colour curves  to reduce background contrast, colour balance giving it the light purple look and brightness and contrast giving the video the natural colours in the area filmed.

Production Logo:

Designed by Ignatius and AJ, Created by Ekjot Singh using the latest versions of Cinema 4D (for text and colour) and Adobe After Effects CS5 (For Flares and shake animations). We used 2 programes to make this logo as said. Each programme provided us with different choices and ideas for a production logo and we came up with this original and unique method.

Target Audience:

The seven types of 4Cs in our Music Video are

The Explorer:

The main priority of our Music Video is to promote the rappers who are featured in the song. The Explorers will discover the style, flow & delivery of the upcoming rappers. Therefore they will discover new things & something that is different in terms of how the music has been Remixed according to each individual style of the rappers.

The Aspirer:

This Music Video will definitely attract the Aspirers because each of the featured rappers has their own image, style, charisma, fashion & persona. These are delivered by their flow, rhythm & delivery of the lyrics. Tignatius has the energetic delivery by using a strong hand gestures to deliver his lyrics & he also does breakdancing. His style of clothing is very stylish, flashy, in trend & therefore he represents himself very well & that he has a great respected status. SK has a very calm, cool & easy going style along with his own style of clothing that is different & very friendly middle class type compare to Tignatius & Tinie Turban. Tinie Turban has the status of upper class & act as a boss his style & fashion is his main priority & this will appeal to the upper class audience which is very rare for them to be appealed to this Hip-Hop/Rap genre song. This is the unique feature of our song & it is so different until our target is for the audience from all types to want to watch this Music Video.

The Succeeder:

This will appeal to this audience because our video has a main message of ‘Look At Me Now’ which is look at the artists goals, achievements & styles. They are also in control of whatever they are doing, very organised & they seek prestige to maintain their success.

The Mainstream:

Our Music Video will be appealing to the mainstream audience because of the origins of the song Look At Me Now by the worldwide mainstream artist Chris Brown. This already established popularity plus the unique & different style of upcoming rappers Remixed the song will definitely has a wide audience worldwide that will want to listen & see the Music Video.

The target audience for our Music Video is very wide & mainstream this is because Look At Me Now song by Chris Brown has a massive impact of popularity worldwide. The genre of this song is old school Hip-Hop/Rap & this genre is currently at their best in the mainstream music industry. The age is mostly from 13-35 with (according to the Youtube Viewers Statistics) the majority of the viewers are female with 60% & male only 40%. This is because the tune & beat of the song really gets the females attention because of the style & showing off the skills that the male rappers showed in the Music Video. The target audience mostly will live all over the world, with majority are middle class B & upper class A but also with the rest of the demographics class such as lower middle class C1, C2, D & E  people (students).

Casting/Props/Ignation Records Crew/ behind the scene:

Featuring Sohil Kapoor: Dressed in casual hip hop style clothing, with a t-shirt, black hoody and tracksuit bottoms along with white trainers. We used this type of clothing as he is 1 of 3 rappers in our music video, so the looks need to match his lyrics as when as the scene and location. Sohil lyrics are about him as a person and what he does best.

Featuring Arjun Singh Johal: This time we have the 2nd rapper dressed in different clothing from the other 2. He is dressed smart to give the overall music video a original look, which makes it different from other related rappers and they way they dress. Arjun is dressed a grey shirt and trousers along with black shoes. His lyrics mainly relate to religion and life.

Staring Ignatius Staoddart: The main rapper, is dressed casual in similar ways to Sohil, but this time, Ignatius is wearing ray bands just like Tinie Temper and Lupe Fiasco. His style is similar to Tinie Tempe as he dances and sings. This makes him look like he is the writer of this song and the other 2 singers are featured. We developed this music video so that it shows who is been featured and who is the main song writer. Ignatius is wearing an Indonesia  t-shirt, grey trousers, and white trainers. His main lyrics are about his home town and about his life in the England.

Ancillary Final version:

The final version of our ancillary includes 4 sections of a CD cover. This includes the actual CD itself along with it's production name, inside image, back cover showing description of songs included the album, and the front cover showing the artist, along with the trademark and titles.

Individual Album Covers:

Front Cover above created on Adobe phothsop and after effects. We used the visual effects and presets within after effects first, then rendered it fully in photoshop before adding the parental adivsory logo. (Cracks, Optical Lens Flares used in afer effects)

Back Cover above shows a list of 10 songs made by Ignation Records, which will all be included within this album. (Cracks used in after effects)

Inside Cover above showing an image of Ignatius inside the right side of the alum cover. (Cracks used in after effects)

CD Cover above created on phothsop mainly, added ignation records title, sub titleand main title in the centre of the CD. (Text used was 28 days later, cracks created on after effects, along with burn and blur tools on the CD)

We used Adobe Photoshop and Adobe After Effects to develop the album cover. We used After Effects to add some optical lens flares, rainbow flare, and screen cracks. We the used Adobe Photoshop to add the text, i.e. song names, trademark etc and eventually put all the parts of the cover in a 4 way page layout using Photoshop. Below shows the trademark logo we used because the Album contains Explicit Lyrics which needs Parental Advisory for those younger listeners.

Ancillary (Front Cover for our music video so far)

This initial photo of this front cover ancillary was taken outside a street, just behind a brick wall house. We used a 12.1 megapixel digital camera to capture the best quality image we could. We then edited the photo via Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Fireworks, and Adobe After Effects. Each software gave use variety and more choice to improve this ancillary towards the audience's liking.

Editing Techniques:

It is extremely important to make sure that you get the right camera shots, mise en scene and sounds but when developing a music video/film, powerful editing techniques are just as crucial. An example of 3 different editing software's our group are using is shown below:

Sony Vegas Pro 10 is a professional HD video and Audio editor. It provides users with similar abilities that are also used on Adobe Premiere CS5 and Final Cut Pro, but are offered in different and unique ways. It allows users to cut, add filters, distort, and transform most supported video and sound files. It can support video files from AVI, MP4, MPEG, MTS etc and along with many sound/image files. Although it provides users with filters and effects, the main idea of this program is to put together a film or any type video into a nice sequence, although it is quiet popular for colour correction. Mojority of films can run just from using sony vegas pro, but if you were to expand it, to increase your grade, then you would need to use other software's that can offer extremely powerful options. In our case, we did just that.

Adobe After Effects is the future technology for extremely powerful graphical effects. We used this powerful software to develop our music video to another level. We did this by creating some cool effects, such as lighting, concrete crack, fireball, windscreen crack, optical flare lights etc. These effects gave majority of our video eye catching and entertaining to the audience. It is also an advantage as it may surprise the audience that doesn't expect it and it is most likely to become more popular as the future of music videos now use good quality software's to make effects rather then filming them live. So we used after effects to add these new features it provides us and we are taking full advantage of technology, which may eventually increase the chance of getting a better grade by using fancy effects.

Our final software was Adobe Photoshop CS5 which is a professional image editing software that allows users to develop or improve vector and bitmap images, either captured by a camera or copied from a website. When making a music video, we also need to create an album cover, along with all 4 parts that are expected from an album cover. So we used Photoshop make an ancillary based on our music video. We used  our own images, but we used the filter and tools provided in photoshop, such as the text tool, brush tool, blur and burn tool, filters and image adjustments like brightness/contrast.

Young Money - Roger That:

The main relation between this music video to ours is mainly the song. The actual video is different to what are looking to make, as our video style will be modern, where as this type of music video is presented ina an old fashion way.

Eminem featuring 50 Cent - You Don't Know

This song was released in 2009, and has become very popular within America. The song is a Hip-Hop, Rap style genre and it something we are looking to include in our music video. The main feature from this video is tempo of editing, which is quiet quick, and also means there is much more room for adding effects and distortion. The song is a high beat tempo, and sounds up to level with the lyrics. The camera shots have variety which make it eye catching and interesting to watch, rather then listening. The main effect used, which is quiet frequent is a white flashing in the background of the character. The editing is again, unnoticable, as the pace of it is quiet quick. This is something our music video is looking for as the music, mojority of the edit, camera techniques are similar to what we want to use.

Texual Analysis: Lil Wayne - John featuring Rick Ross

This song is rapped by Little Wayne in a hip-hop R n B style genre. It relates to the type of music video our group wants to develop with the effects and continuous use of editing, such as variety of camera shots. The idea of our music video is to make it catchy, attractive and not boring to the audience. So we will use some techniques from the Lil Wayne music video. We are looking to use a few vibration shots, where you get some camera shake from this video. We are also looking to relate the lyrics of our song according to the beat and words of the music. So each scene and character will represent something.

Many people think that hip hop is mainly based on drugs, alcahol, and money, which is why most people have negative views on these types of genre. The type of clothing used can clearly show that its hip hop and most people can relate to this type of fashion. The main character Lil Wayne is wearing a sleveless t-shirt, with shorts, and casual white plimsoles along with white socks. The type of cloting releates to the type of song as its set in that kind of atmosphere, where it's smoky, cold, shakey lactions. So all this relates when it comes to music, clothes and location.

The Young Money Record label which is owned by Lil Wayne himself definitely tried to sell this track on how wealthy and powerful Lil Wayne & Rick Ross are. There are loads of close ups, medium shots & long shots from diffewrent views or angles of the artists throughout. This is to represent the expensive jewellery, clothes, shoes & show their dominance in the song & other actresses and actors are their crew who works for them. This video continues its tradition of representing Lil Wayne as wealthy, powerful & a ladies man which are a very good representation of himself to the world to make his fans and other people shows some respect & honor. This also shows that he is not just a music artists but he is an art himself, as he got tatoos all over his body & diamond teeth.

The Music video is mostly balanced between performance & concept made by Lil Wayne, Rick Ross & the director Colin Tiley. The isn’t any story or narrative told in this video, this is because they want to sell the artists more than a story which can accompany the song. By doing this the artists appearance and style reputatuion are increasing more than put a side story while the music is playing.

Colin Tiley did a nother successful Music Video with a very suitable & well chosen mise en scene that really supports the tempo, tone & style of the song John by Lil Wayne. The camera work, editing & style are definitely an inspiration for my Look At Me Now Remix Music Video.

Risk Assessment:

One of the most important things to consider when filming a music video or movie is safety. This is to ensure that characters are safe before filming and that everything is good to go. Because we used several locations in our music video we had to make sure that each location was safe, as we filmed at night, we had to be fully alert of strangers etc. We also had to be carfull when filming in the skate park as cyclists ccould interfere and accidently cause an accident while we are filming.
